Mikaela attained her undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in 2023, and is now in the final year of her Master of Nursing Science degree at the University of Otago, with a strong passion for advancing rural health equity.
She serves as the Student Representative Board Member on the Hauora Taiwhenua Board, advocating for healthcare students and contributing a different perspective to the table discussions. As a committee member of the Rural Nursing Executive, she also supports behind-the-scenes initiatives, particularly their social media. She also works closely alongside the Students of Rural Health Aotearoa.
Furthermore, Mikaela works alongside Mobile Health, an organisation focused on reducing access-to-care barriers for rural whānau. She is committed to working with senior colleagues to address health inequities and support sustainable, community-led solutions.
