Nathan Fa’avae

Nathan Fa’avae is a celebrated adventurer, entrepreneur, and educator, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in Adventure Racing and outdoor leadership. Appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2022, he was honoured for his outstanding contributions to sport, outdoor education, and his advocacy for Pasifika youth.

As captain of the New Zealand Adventure Racing team, Nathan led his team to seven world championship titles, maintaining an unbeaten record for over a decade and cementing their status as the most successful team in the sport’s history. Beyond competition, he is a respected Outward Bound instructor and Patron of Whenua Iti Outdoors, championing personal growth through outdoor experiences.

Nathan’s commitment to community shines through the Fa’avae Foundation, which supports health, education, and opportunities for Pacific youth. His entrepreneurial ventures reflect the same spirit of innovation and purpose: from founding a sea kayaking company in Abel Tasman National Park to creating Ten Events Ltd, New Zealand’s leading adventure sports organiser, and Real Meals, a premium freeze-dried food brand trusted by athletes worldwide.

Nathan continues to push boundaries. In 2024, he completed the Yukon 1000—the world’s longest and toughest paddle race—proving that for Nathan Fa’avae, adventure is not just a passion, but a legacy in motion.
