Dr. Viviana Martinez-Bianchi is a family physician, Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine. She is Associate Professor and Director for Health Equity at Duke University’s Department of Family Medicine and Community Health, where she previously led the Family Medicine Residency program (2006–2021).
In October 2023 she was elected President-Elect of the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) and will serve as President from 2025 to 2027. She previously served as WONCA Executive Member-at-Large and liaison to the World Health Organization (2016–2021).
Dr. Martinez-Bianchi is founder and co-director of LATIN-19, the Latinx Advocacy Team and Interdisciplinary Network for COVID-19 and has advised the North Carolina Governor’s Equity Task Force and the NC Department of Health and Human Services on equitable access to testing, vaccines, and Medicaid expansion. She also chaired the Health Equity Team for Family Medicine for America’s Health and the Starfield II: Health Equity Summit.
Her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic was recognized in the award-winning Univision documentary The Heroes of the Pandemic.
